Farida Odumosu

something to say

dont touch my hair

my skin my logo

appropriate, thats a low blow

see us and they just stare

the blueprint that they can't bare

looking like i hit the lotto

telfar, pose as my cargo

flex and give ‘em a quick scare

rewinding a song is the closest thing to time travel

the only way we can relive a moment over and over again

a way we can relate, imagine, and consume

all accomplished with just a piece of paper and pen

watch the sensitivity and vulnerability unravel

and remember this tune as you begin to bloom.

Always and Forever

i woke up early in the day

without a thought in mind

with only your love in my heart

something hard to find

you held my hand while looking down

exchange your all for me

i looked up straight at you

i asked “who do you wish to be?”

now i look, the window sill

relive, i tell myself

ponder, where you are right now

thou shall reveal thyself

i wait here at the sill for you

as time goes on right by

i reminisce your touch that day

we gazed up at the sky

caressed under distress, confess

it was my biggest weakness

our souls bound to collide as one

nothing but joint sweetness

I ask to hold on to our love,

you look and say “you better”

I ask how long we must hold on

you say “always and forever”

Hi!!! My name is Farida and I’m an 18 year old poet from New Jersey. Prior to joining YALDA, I was so used to reading and writing poetry independently as I don't have many friends that enjoy doing the same. Now that I have the YALDA community by my side, I have been exposed to such strong independent women. Through the art of poetry, YALDA has taught me to embrace my femininity and ancestry, while overall encouraging me to be unapologetically myself.
